Your comments are definitely valid. It is also a good idea to surround yourself with people who have the skills to manage bits that you either don't have the time or the skills for, such as admin, Accounts/VAT etc, so you do not feel too pressured as you seek to grow your new business.

(p.s. the numbered list appears as 1, 1 and 1, rather than 1, 2, 3 on my computer)

Thanks Dorothy - yes there will further news about Dave and his family this week - I suspect there are quite a lot more challenges ahead and they (and others) will value our advice.

Hi Wendy - interesting conudrum and one I have also come across, Boomers beating themselves up for not being able to support adult kids. This is very much about generational expectations. I'm assuming Dave's kids aren't starving!

Sometimes one person breaking the family dynamic causes ripples in the pond. In this case it is a person losing his job. I have found there can be great value in involving the spouse in the transition coaching process. This helps iron out all disappointments and mis matched expectations, when life goes unexpectedly off plan and leads to the creation of new goals as a couple.

Alternatively , as the expectations in this case are now June's, perhaps there is something she can do to meet those goals herself as they are no longer part of Dave's plan!

Complex!

Great advice. In addition to joining social networking groups like Linkedin and Xing, I would also recommend joining Expert Networks like Gerson Lehrman Group, Maven Research, or CognoLink. Expert networks connect experienced professionals with investors, individuals and companies seeking their advice on entering new markets or developing new products or services. Engagements generally take place over the phone, last 30 to 60 minutes, pay well, and provide an excellent opportunity for networking.
